Joker Movie Review Top Critics

Ratings:1/5 Reviewer: Taran Adarsh Bollywood Hungama  despite everything going in its favor, JOKER falls flat on its face! JOKER runs out of gas as soon as director Shirish Kunder establishes the plot, because neither does the comic quotient work, nor do the aliens [fake and actual] salvage the show. In fact, the film makes a mockery of everything you may have seen or heard of UFOs and aliens. While bits and pieces of the first half is tolerable, the film goes completely awry in its post-interval portions. Seriously, what was Kunder thinking while penning and executing this one? Imagine an alien dancing to Indian songs and also doing pelvic thrusts!!! Yes, you read that right! On the whole, JOKER is a joke of a film.

Ratings:1.5/5 Reviewer: Raja Sen Rediff  So what happens if a film -- one ostensibly in the guise of a comedy -- doesn't try too hard? The humour here isn't grating, overdone, outrageous, offensive, excruciating, unwatchable. There isn't a single line in Kunder's film that actually works, leaving us with a film that, while commendably brisk in a 100-minute package, refuses to get going at all. Does Joker hold up, then, as a children's film? Not a chance. It's clean, sure, bereft of swearing or innuendo (yet with a sultry item song) but it's also daft. The aliens aren't anything to write home about.

Ratings:1.5/5  Reviewer: Gaurav Malani  Times Of India As a one-line idea Joker might have appeared as an interesting concept. But when the one line is sketched (rather stretched) into a full-length film, you realize that it was better restricted till the one-line only. Like a joker, the film makes a complete fool of itself. However it fails to make you laugh. The circus clown is funnier! The fundamental flaw of the film is that the moment where you feel there's something actually happening in the story, the film ends. Prior to that the narrative just keeps beating around the bush with its silly rural setup and caricatured characters of villagers.

Ratings:1/5 Reviewer: Saibal Chatterjee NDTV  Joker is a crude joke of a film that will leave you in tears unless you have a stomach strong enough to digest such unmitigated junk.Occasionally, trash does have its uses in the domain of entertainment. But when it decomposes and turns into putrid garbage, it stinks. Yes, Joker is a load of rubbish that belongs in the dump yard. What Joker delivers in the garbled guise of the genre plumbs such depths of vapidity that it stands no chance of ever coming up for air.Give Joker a miss if you value your sanity and money. It gives commercial Hindi cinema a bad name.

Ratings:1/5 Reviewer: Aniruddha Guha DNA  The best thing I can say about Joker is that it’s better than Tees Maar Khan. Listing out the inanities of Joker would take an obnoxiously long amount of time and effort, in addition to the two hours the film saps out of your soul watching it. Unfortunately, Joker isn’t as awful as you expect it to be, falling a few degrees short of entering the ‘So Bad It’s Good’ category.oker, sadly, doesn’t make the cut even there. Total fail.

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer: Roshni Devi Koimoi  What’s Good: The direction; the music; the cinematography; some puns. What’s Bad: The predictable storyline.Loo Break: None.Watch or Not?: It’s a timepass watch but not really engrossing.Joker is an amusing but predictable fare. Nothing out-of-this-world.Shirish Kunder’s premise for Joker is too simplistic. Obviously, logic takes a backseat but it’s the predictability that is the real downer.

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer: Rohit Vats IBNLive You can find almost all the known comedians in Joker but their acts depend on the director's instructions.Joker tries hard to keep the momentum going but it needs better acting for that.Aliens, aliens everywhere but not a logic to find.Shreyas Talpade's gibberish works at times. Rest of the actors are either overacting or just delivering their lines.Joker is technically satisfactory but it needed a more meaty story.Overall, Joker is funny in parts. Better acting could have helped it.Joker gets 2 out of 5 for its VFX, Akshay Kumar, Kafirana and Shreyas Talpade's gibberish

Ratings:1/5 Reviewer:Zee News Zee News Joker’ clearly lacks the ‘wow’ factor which it abundantly promised in the film’s trailer. Entertainment wise, the film really has nothing to offer. but all that has been washed out as the film has come as a big disappointment. The only saving grace is in the form of Akshay Kumar who desperately manages to tether the film’s loose elements into a mediocre fun caper, but even his efforts succumb to the weak plot and utterly mismanaged cast of the film. The story is very run-of the-mill.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi Movie Review Top Critics

Ratings: :3.5/5 Reviewer:Taran Adarsh Bollywood Hungama  What makes SHIRIN FARHAD KI TOH NIKAL PADI interesting, besides its casting, is the fact that it portrays a reality in the garb of entertainment: Getting a compatible companion in life can be real tough, at times. All this, of course, is narrated with loads of humor. In short, SHIRIN FARHAD KI TOH NIKAL PADI doesn't come across as a film on heartbreaks, heartaches or rona-dhona. This one's a feel-good entertainer. You wear a smile on your face as you exit the auditorium. On the whole, SHIRIN FARHAD KI TOH NIKAL PADI is a simple, unfussy and heartfelt movie that hits the right notes. The film supports the fact that no one is too old to fall in love. Truly, this wonderful love story has no expiry date. Recommended!

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Madhureeta Mukherjee Times Of India    With all the Cyruses, Ferozes, Perizaads, salli botis, dikras, dikris - this one is full of stereotypical bawa-isms, hilarious in parts; sweet as lagan-nu-custard in some, and mostly endearing. The story doesn't ride through too many highs, lows, conflicts or drama, and is as straightforward as Farhad's matrimonial column. Bela, in her debut, delivers a breezy romance, with nothing complicated; everything too-good-to-be-true. The Bollywood touches are entertaining, but the songs (and some scenes) slacken the pace. This is no epic love tale, but it's worth a watch for those who like their cinema as buttered as their bun maska.

Ratings:3.5/5 Reviewer:Sukanya Verma Rediff   Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, it certainly makes for a welcome break from farcical exaggerations. What sets this delightful love story apart is that it's woven around two 40-plus Parsis, who neither face the hurdle of age nor community. The collective purpose is to introduce an element of novelty in a fairly simple tale about two decent but lonely adults Farhad and Shirin having a hard time getting together owing to disapproving parents, ailing parents or that good ol' troublemaker -- misunderstanding. Each one of them lends these honest and innocent qualities into the characters they're portraying to make Bhansali's debut behind the camera a feel-good and pleasurable experience. Do yourself a favour, indulge them.

Ratings:2.5/5 Reviewer:Kunal Guha Yahoo  'Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi' (SFKTNP) go on to prove that the hero doesn't need to be right out of Mills and Boons and his love interest can have a few extra love handles.SFKTNP may not be the greatest love story ever told and may not have a novel plot even. But it leaves you with a snuggly feeling and yearning to experience what you've seen on the screen. And when Farhad's declares his love, saying, when he's much older and doesn't have his mind or his hearing, he would still remember Shirin, you know exactly what he means and how much he means it. After all, true love is like a tattoo, it can cause pain, get faded and change shape with wrinkles but it sticks.

Ratings:2.5/5 Reviewer:Saibal Chatterjee NDTV  The concept is fresh, the casting inspired, the narrative tone and tenor unconventional, and the film has more mirth than girth. So, is Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi as enjoyable as it sounds? It is, if you discount its rare and mercifully brief flaccid stretches. Though certainly not a laugh riot that will have you rolling in the aisles, this modern-day urban twist to the Shirin-Farhad love story is underlined by genteel mirth. It also takes on a poignant tinge at times. Verdict: Though a bit on the sluggish side, Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi is warm-hearted and generally watchable without being exhilarating.

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Aniruddha Guha DNA  Shirin Farhad... is quite clearly modelled on the Hrishikesh Mukherjee brand of cinema – you meet good-hearted characters, enter their lives, see them dealing with regular problems and then resolving conflicts without much ado or overt drama.Among the things that ail the film is the inconsistent writing (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) that oscillates between simple and simplistic, its TV serial-like production values and unwanted music. At under two hours, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi demands little of you and delivers enough for you to not grudge spending time and money on it. I suggest you watch it for some honest moments and a lovable performance by Boman Irani.

Ratings:0.5/5 Reviewer:Mayank Shekhar Dainik Bhaskar  The movie is presumably an attempt to capture the quirks and ethos of this warm and unique community. The Parsees before you seem like raving lunatics, throwing chairs at public meetings, holding a pistol, generally behaving like mentally retarded half-humans. I suppose this is in the service of some sort of third-rate, over-the-top humour. It's really not funny. There are already such few Parsees left in the world, and fewer cities where you can meet them. Mumbai, India’s showbiz capital, is one of those cities. This explains why we see many of our films set around this quirky community. And then you step out of this concoction with concussion in your head, and wonder: “Deekra, what was this?”

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer:Martin D Souza Glamsham First-time director Bela Sehgal does well with an off-beat script, but casting is a big let down. Also, her constant references in scenes to DIL TO PAGAL HAI, DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYEGE and HUM AAPKE HAI KAUN show that the creativity department was short on stuff. A couple of songs are peppy, especially 'Rumba mein samba' sung by the evergreen Usha Uthup. On the whole, if Farhad's Shirin was a better choice, who knows, the film might have taken a different turn.

Ek Tha Tiger Movie Review Top Critics

Ratings:3.5/5 Reviewer:Saibal Chatterjee NDTV   Ek Tha Tiger poses no such worries. A smartly scripted, crisply edited and stylishly mounted love story cloaked in the garb of an espionage thriller, it makes enough sense for the most part to blow away the air of scepticism.Ek Tha Tiger isn’t what one whould rate as great cinema, but it isn’t just harmless fun. The pacifist message dovetailed into its core lends the film a far greater degree of relevance than Bollywood spy thrillers generally strive for.I am going with three and a half stars. Ek Tha Tiger has enough zing, visual and otherwise, to keep you in your seats for its runtime of a little over two hours.

Ratings:4.5/5 Reviewer:Taran Adarsh Bollywood Hungama   As a standalone film, EK THA TIGER is enthralling and most significantly, an entertaining motion picture. On the exterior, it is a compelling love story/thriller. But beneath the entertainment that it offers, it carries a message as well. Loud and clear. If the spectators can see through the coating, great. Even if they don't, they will yet go back in high spirits. On the whole, EK THA TIGER is a high-octane thriller that works big time. This one has style and substance, both, besides dazzling action, stunning international locales and stylish execution. Most importantly, it has Salman Khan, the trump card of this enterprise. There's no denying that Salman's charisma has resulted in a mind-blowing, astounding, never-seen-before start at the ticket window, but the film's content will sustain it thereafter. The film has long legs to prolong its splendid run. This is, without doubt, Salman's best. Sure shot Blockbuster!

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer: Roshni Devi Koimoi   What’s Good: The cinematography; some twists in the film; the music. What’s Bad: The plot seems stretched; unexplained loops.Loo Break: Not really.Watch or Not: Watch it for Salman Khan at the top of his game and some exciting action scenes.Aditya Chopra’s story smartly mixes a spy thriller with a love story which is sort of exciting. Kabir Khan and Neelesh Misra’s script has its share of flaws. The story of the scientist in the first half shows Tiger quite inept as a spy and isn’t even given a proper conclusion. Also, why RAW decides to help their rogue agent Tiger towards the end is up to the viewers to decide. The movie also seems a bit long with the duo on the run most of the time. Dialogues are good and keep a good dose of humourSalman fans won’t be disappointed by Ek Tha Tiger. For others, it’s a fun watch even though it’s a bit long.

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer:Rohit Vats CNN IBN (IBNLive)   Ek Tha Tiger has Salman Khan in almost every frame so far. He does better than 'Bodyguard' this time. One may not know about other things but Salman screen presence is unbeatable. .Ek Tha Tiger's second half has the right pace. Salman portrays different emotions. The storyteller has apparently tries to give a message through Ek Tha Tiger. Ek Tha Tiger represents 'masala' Bollywood and has many illogical scenes. Salman is director's answer to everything. Ekthatiger seems to be the celebration of Salman Khan's superstardom.Ek Tha Tiger is especially meant for the audiences who made 'Bodyguard' & 'Ready' hits.Salman's fans should not miss Ek Tha Tiger. Others can watch it for its exotic locations and daredevil stunts.Overall, Ek Tha Tiger gets 2 out of 5 for high production values and 'masala' entertainment

Ratings:3.5/5 Reviewer:Aniruddha Guha DNA   Ek Tha Tiger is similar in some ways — it's a film that presents Salman as a larger-than-life, superhero-esque secret agent. There's action, music and a plot that is tailored to satiate Khan fans looking to get off on his antics. But, surprise surprise. Director Kabir Khan doesn't leave things to the Salman factor alone. He banks on it, no doubt, with his film exploiting the actor's persona to the hilt, but makes sure he makes it a spectacle of it. "I'll show you how to do it" - his film arrogantly seems to be telling filmmakers chasing multiple crore figures and box office records. There's style, there's slickness, and there's an ingredient almost entirely missing from most other Salman films - wit.

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Mayank Shekar Dainik Bhaskar   Reviewing a Salman Khan film is like ironing a pair of jeans: really, what’s the point. People will watch it anyway. The sensible, sorted director’s ensured the film has a script. Though only Aditya Chopra the credited story writer, could be behind a deeply romantic idea of two secret service agents of rival countries falling desperately in love.Neither of the lead characters plays traitor to their government. They’re merely in love. You know love will eventually win. And of course you knew Salman Khan will win. At the time of writing this review, it’s hard to estimate the film’s box-office receipts. Yet, never in my recent memory have I stood in a long line, all the way outside a mall, trying to get into a packed multiplex, with a ticket bought in advance, for a 9 am show!
