Special 26 (Chabbis) Movie Review

Special 26

Ratings:4/5 Special 26 Review By: Aakash Barvalia MoviezAdda As mentioned earlier, Special 26 is a kind of album where one may have expected something unusual to listen. With respect to that, it is good to hear songs like 'Tujh Sang Lagee', 'Gore Mukhde Pe Zulfa Di Chaava' and 'Mujh Mein Tu' which provides the album a Bollywood shade. However if only 'Dharpakad' would have been much more appealing in terms of audio as well, it would have given the album an added edge.

Ratings:4/5 Special 26 Review By: Taran Adarsh BollywoodHungama SPECIAL 26 is not one of those mindless masala entertainers with leave-your-brains-at-home attitude. SPECIAL 26 encompasses three startling cases that sent a shiver down the spine of many a businessman in the 1980s. What makes the film tick is the manner in which Neeraj Pandey integrates these episodes in a sequence and develops a clever cat and mouse saga between law breakers and law enforcers. Like a wednesday, SPECIAL 26 also sets you thinking, but the motive this time is not to convey any message or make any social statement. The intention is crystal clear: Make an entertainer with a refreshingly different premise, which is a 360-degree transition from the customary masala fare. Yet, it's sharp, intelligent and thoroughly enjoyable. On the whole, SPECIAL 26 is an intelligently woven, slick and smart period thriller with its subject matter as its USP. It's sure to get listed as one of the most gripping heist dramas based on real life occurrences. A film that's sure to win accolades, acclaim and awards. Also, box-office rewards!

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Madhureeta Mukherjee Times of India (TOI) Inspired by a real incident, Neeraj Pandey cuts to the chor-police chase and weaves an intelligent, mind-racing thriller, keeping you tightly strapped to your seats. It captures the 80's era beautifully; and the cinematography ( Bobby Singh) is a cut above . The powerful background score enthuses the pace. The only place he loses momentum is the romantic track and dance number, kinda unwarranted, we must say.Interestingly, this con-job story is not superbly-stylish or stealthily serious. It doesn't stun you with a social message like Pandey's 'A Wednesday', but it grips, excites and ahh...climaxes too! And no ... you can't fake this one! Catch it for pure cinematic orgasm.

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Sukanya Verma Rediff  Old is gold AND exciting. In his latest offering Special Chabbis -- based on true heist incidents -- director Neeraj Pandey highlights this likelihood with his tremendous mix of shrewd brainpower against obsolete technology. But what’s truly Special about this Chabbis is to see two such different actors, one reliably awesome and the other getting out of his comfort zone of mindless money-spinners to collaborate and credit a script that gives them something concrete and equivalent to work on. Oh yes, Special Chabbis is my second favourite film of 2013 so far.

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Saibal Chaterjee NDTV Special 26 is an intelligently scripted, superbly acted, enthralling and believable heist film that is more than just that. Special 26 hinges on four pivotal performances, with Manoj Bajpayee’s star turn being the standout one. It is a classic demonstration of what a consummate actor can achieve when he is at complete ease with the material at his disposal.Verdict: Special 26 truly special. Not be missed.

Ratings:2.5/5 Review By: Roshni Devi Koimoi
What’s Good: Some dialogues; the jokes; the climax. What’s Bad: Kajal’s unnecessary role/romance angle; the songs; a few unexplained bits. Loo break: None. Watch or Not?: Watch it for the con-jobs, the humour and Akshay-Manoj’s war of wits. Special 26 is a captivating con-movie with an equally thrilling chase with Akshay Kumar and Manoj Bajpai doing their best chor-police jodi.

ABCD (Any Body Can Dance) Movie Review Top Critic

Ratings:3.5/5 ABCD Review By: Aakash Barvalia MoviezAdda ABCD - Any Body Can Dance is worth-watching for dance lovers! It has some of the outstanding, eye-pooping and mindboggling dance sequences, which one would just not believe it! Though the storyline was not that appealing, but the rest other was very much entertaining.

Ratings:3/5 ABCD Review By: Taran Adarsh BollywoodHungama ABCD - ANY BODY CAN DANCE's biggest strength lies in the variety of dances that Remo presents to the spectators. Where the film falters is in its skeletal plotline, although writer Tushar Hiranandani comes up with several knockout sequences. But there's no denying that the screenwriting deviates into the conventional and foreseeable zone in the second hour. The curse of the second half [most films run out of steam in the post-interval portions] looms large here too, as Remo resorts to clichés to carry the story forward. Besides, the film is stretched by at least 15/20 minutes. Thankfully, the narrative gathers steam once again towards the closing portions and the dance competition in the finale is simply breathtakingOn the whole, ABCD - ANY BODY CAN DANCE has some incredible, eye-popping dances as its soul. While the template may be conventional -- the triumph of the underdog -- the film has its share of moments that stay with you, especially the concluding portions of the film.

Race 2 Movie Review Top Critic

Race 2

Ratings:2.5/5 Race 2 Review By: Taran Adarsh BollywoodHungama RACE 2 takes off with a bang. Literally. The twists and turns keep you captivated. The post-interval portions start with gusto, but the writing isn't foolproof. On the whole, RACE 2 has a rocking first half, glam and glitz, great looking men and women, spectacular locales, extravagant making, adrenaline pumping action and of course, a solid brand that's gonna make moviegoers flock the cineplexes initially, but the film lacks the sustaining power thanks to its uneven second half. The writing isn't watertight, the film lacks a hit score, the climax is far from effective and overall, RACE 2 pales in comparison to RACE.

Review By: Sneha May  24*7 On many levels, a movie that’s all fluff and no stuff can be quite exhausting. And, ‘Race2’ is just that. It’s just a pompous wannabe-thriller that is devoid of any logic. It’s a race, we are told, on numerous occasions, by the two leading heroes and their two gorgeous sidekicks, almost trying to justify why they’ve taken two-hours-and-thirty-minutes of our lives. Yet, there’s never a real sense of what they are racing for. Time, money, babes, or cars? While its predecessor, the original ‘Race’, had shown some promise and glimpse of a good plot, ‘Race2’ steers away from any such attempts, and instead focuses on good looks and charm. On the whole, this is just a lazy sequel of a famed potboiler that can be watched at home… on a (borrowed) DVD.

Ratings:-- Review By: Rohit Vats IBNLiveRace2 is so high on style that no character is ready to talk normally in the film. Good amount of energy has been spent on introducing the characters. But then this is needed in a film like Race2. Sleek characters, smart one liners and a very stylish Saif Ali Khan. Race2 franchise seems satisfactory.People wear sunglasses in dark rooms in Abbas-Mustan's films. Basically this was necessary to get a role in Race2.

Ratings:3/5 Review By: Nabanita Roy OneIndia  Race 2, bears all those familiar trademarks of a heady cocktail of betrayal, high-octane action, feisty women combined with twists that will take audiences on adventure-filled rollercoaster ride. Like Race, even the sequel never reveals all its cards at once. The layers come off one by one, and each time you think you've got it all figured out, another shocker hits you out of the blue.On the whole, the makers of Race 2 have made sure to keep the audience entertained so far. We hope to check out more of action, deep secrets, mind-boggling twists further.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola Movie Review Top Critics

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola Review

Ratings:2.5/5 Review Aakash Barvalia MoviezAdda The graph of the movie has many ups and down, and thus it is an enjoyable experience in bits and parts. On the whole, Vishal Bhardwaj has given a meaningful cinema with Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, with a good sense of humour.

Ratings:2/5 Review Taran Adarsh Bollywood Hungama MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA is definitely not Vishal's best work, though the master touch is evident in several sequences. The story barely moves in the first hour; there are stretches when the account begins to blur. Thankfully, the sequence of events and some exceptional moments in the post-interval portions save the film from tripping. At the same time, I wish to add that the film could've done with some judicious trimming for a stronger impact. It's way too lengthy! On the whole, MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA holds your attention in parts, but that's not enough. The first half is lackluster, while the post-interval part catches some steam. However, the excessive length plays a spoilsport. Below expectations!

Ratings:3/5 Review Srijana Mitra Das Times of India (TOI) But here's my angst - this movie could have been so much more. Like champagne gone flat, the film's left lying about for too late, its plot meandering everywhere (including a plane ride through moon-lit clouds, ending in a Maoist meeting), the director so determined to have fun that often, the viewer doesn't. Sure, there are hilarious moments involving pink buffaloes and deep wells, Shakespeare and Sheila Dixit, even a laal rang ka kachcha, and it's all very clever - but where's the self-control? With its intellectual foundation and dramatic potential, MKBKM needed disciplined direction, not wandering shots, predictable banter or dull crudity.

Ratings:4/5 Review Raja Sen Rediff  It's theatrical, insightful, wickedly clever and, often, too funny to even laugh at, if you know what I mean. It is also, as may be apparent, an utterly random movie, sometimes jarringly uneven and frequently meandering. And yet it works, because it is, at every single step, unexpected and surprising. This film swings with two sultans, each spurring the other on toward a sillier spectacle, a sight of grand lunacy. Laced with both acid and arsenic, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola isn't everyone's cup of tea. It takes a while to get into its groove, but changes gears with spectacular finesse after that.

Ratings:3/5 Review Saibal Chaterjee NDTV It is a wild, wacky, wicked satire that carries the unmistakable Vishal Bhardwaj signature. But it leaves you with mixed feelings. It isn’t a big, bloated blockbuster wannabe. It has its daring share of moments that defy popular expectations. Despite the uneven quality of the ambitious narrative, Bhardwaj packs in just about enough quirky energy to make Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola generally watchable. Few filmmakers in Mumbai engage with ideas and issues of contemporary relevance as felicitously as Bhardwaj. He might have fallen short this time around, but even when he is not at his best, he is infinitely better than most in the business.

Ratings:2/5 Review Shubhra Gupta Indian Express

Once the director gets to the point, we realize it’s a very meat-and-potatoes kind of story, the most meat-and-potatoes Bharadwaj has been, despite the weird contrivances he includes in the telling of it. The conflict is the familiar poor `kisaan’ vs rapacious overlords, and true love vs forced alliances, and how education save our souls, shot through in some parts with the sort of VB flourish that make his films such delights. But he makes us wait for the good bits, does Bharadwaj, and by then we’ve nearly fallen asleep.

Ratings:2/5 Review  Kanika Sikka DNA

Ten minutes before the ending of the first half (which is mighty slow), the movie is still trying to set the plot. Just before the interval, there’s a twist (not like you couldn’t guess it) and during the break, you wonder what the movie is trying to show. This confusion is carried on till the end of the second half, in which, characters appear and disappear conveniently. At the end of it, even though they had worthy intentions, I doubt the filmmakers knew what exactly they wanted to portray through their various characters. Watch the film for Pankaj Kapoor and Shabana Azmi and some fun that the duo bring about. But don’t expect too much out of it. Final warning: Bharadwaj fans, stay away from this one.

Ratings:3/5 Review Roshni Devi Koimoi What’s Good: The funny bits; the Haryanvi setting; Gulabo’s appearances; Pankaj Kapur’s act. What’s Bad: The slow first half; the undecipherable parts of Pankaj Kapur’s speech; Imran Khan’s lack of rustic charm. Loo break: A few before the interval. Watch or Not?: Watch it for a nice dose of rustic comedy!
